Short bio

Internationally known, the work of Richard Artschwager (1923-2013) has been shown in galleries and museums since the early '60s. As an artist whose methods can be simultaneously aligned with disparate movements like Pop, Minimalism, and Conceptualism, Artschwager's aesthetic is not easily defined.  Many of his works play with the forms of utilitarian objects and take a "finish fetish" approach to commercial and industrial materials not typically used by artists of his generation. This allowed Artschwager's unique objects to explore our own material culture and conceptually play with a sense of the uncanny within our perception of objecthood.
