Jun Kaneko

Coinciding with the East Coast debut of his production of the opera Madama Butterfly, four venues throughout the city are exhibiting sculpture by internationally acclaimed artist Jun Kaneko.

Kaneko, born in Nagoya, Japan in 1942, began his formal studies in art in the U.S. at the Chouinard Art Institute and continued at Berkeley and Claremont Graduate School. Since the mid ’90s, Kaneko has focused on an ongoing series of immensely scaled ceramic works - collectively referred to by the artist as “Dangos”.

Art installations are courtesy of the artist and Locks Gallery, Philadelphia. For inquiries, please contact the gallery at 215-629-1000 or info@locksgallery.com. For more information about Madama Butterfly performances and the On the Wings of Music project, please visit www.operaphila.org
