For the ADAA Art Show, Locks Gallery (Booth B10) will exhibit a solo exhibition of Jennifer Bartlett focusing on her steel plate works.
Early in her career, Jennifer Bartlett began painting on twelve-inch square steel plates, which would become the modular unit for both groupings and mural-scale installations of systemic logic and extraordinary invention. The trajectory of her early plate work is well known, culminating in the 987-plate Rhapsody, 1975-76.
In addition to Bartlett's most recent plate work, Locks Gallery will exhibit a selection of rarely seen plate paintings from the 1970s, completed just before her monumental Rhapsody. These include the optically challenging Black 6" Squares series and the Positive-Negative group, in which various black-and-white options became graphic representations of presence and absence, volume and void, being and nothingness.
The 24th edition of The Art Show, the nation's foremost and longest running fine art fair, takes place March 7-11, 2012 at the Park Avenue Armory at 67th Street in New York City. Organized by the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA) to benefit the Henry Street Settlement, the fair presents exhibitions from the nation's leading art dealers and galleries showcasing a variety of museum-quality exhibits ranging from cutting-edge, 21st century works, to masterpieces from the 19th and 20th centuries.
