Press Release

Inspired by her stay at a villa in Nice, France, in 1979–80, Jennifer Bartlett embarked on an ambitious freehand drawing project comprising nearly 200 unique perspectives of the villa's garden, experimenting with countless modes of representation and psychologically-charged re-imaginings of the surroundings. After celebrated exhibitions of this body of work, Bartlett began an equally riveting series of paintings using serial perspectives of the same scene.  On view in our third floor gallery is a selection of prints and drawings from In the Garden.
