Lynda Benglis

One of Lynda Benglis's iconic latex floor pieces, Corner Piece, 1969 has been included in the exhibition Gravity's Edge at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. The exhibition was curated by Mika Yoshitake and looks to recontextualize the relationship to color and abstraction in works made between 1959 and 1978.

The installation, drawn from the Hirshhorn's permanent collection, traces a double trajectory: the exploration of the force of gravity as a determining factor in artistic production and the increasing attention paid to the edge as a compelling aspect of the structure and perception of an artwork. Works by Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Louis, Kenneth Noland, Paul Jenkins, and Sam Francis are shown alongside contemporaneous sculptures by Lynda Benglis and Anne Truitt.

The exhibition is on view through June 15, 2014 on the Lower Level galleries of the museum.
