February 7, 2007, Philadelphia, PA – Locks Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent video installations by Jennifer Steinkamp, which will be on view from March 2 to April 14, 2007. There will be an opening reception for the exhibition on Friday, March 2, 2007 from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Gallery admission is free and open to the public.

The Locks Gallery exhibition will include six separate video installations ranging in scale from 15 inches to 15 feet tall. In each work Steinkamp creates stylized 3-D animations of plants, vines, and a tree in full bloom blowing softly in the wind. One critic characterized her ravishing works as “not so much whizzbang as languidly hypnotic.”

Steinkamp, who lives in Los Angeles and teaches at UCLA, has exhibited internationally in museums and galleries, as well as creating permanent site-specific works for several public institutions. A traveling mid-career retrospective of her video works is currently on view at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City.
