May 10, 2007, Philadelphia, PA - Locks Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by abstract artist Joe McAleer.

The Locks exhibition will focus on the artist’s most recent paintings created in southern Florida. McAleer, a painting instructor for over 30 years, finds inspiration in Op Art, as well as in the work of Jasper Johns and Sean Scully. His most recent paintings feature optical effects created by mosaic-like patterning, richly layered color and dense paint application.

This will be McAleer’s first exhibition in the Philadelphia area. Educated at Glassboro State (now Rowan University), McAleer has participated in numerous group exhibitions with his peers from the university. The artist lives and works in New Jersey and Florida.
